Hello everyone and welcome to the very first installment of my new Build a City Challenge! The BaCC is one of my favourite challenges and I’ve been wanting to start a new one, and document it, for a long time now, so here it is, finally! I will follow the ‘official’ ruleset that is posted on Boolprop (http://boolprop.prophpbb.com/topic36.html).
The text beneath the first picture is bit long, but I wanted to properly introduce the founder of Blueberry Island and provide reason for her decision to live on a desert island all by herself. After that first bit it will mostly be short and observing :-)
Julia Robinson had had a tough life up until now. Her mother had died while giving birth to her, and she had lived with her father her whole life. A few months ago, however, she had found out her father was the head of a huge criminal organisation in her home town, Sim City. She was devastated and hadn’t known what to do. A few weeks later her father had been arrested, and she was asked to testify against him, and thereby sending him to prison for the rest of his life. If she didn’t testify, she risked being arrested herself. Julia did what she thought was the right thing: she testified against her father, who, she had found out, was responsible for most of the liquidations that had occurred in Sim City over the past 10 years. After the trial was over Julia tried to pick up her life, but she couldn’t. She knew her father would never kill her, but still, she was afraid, and she felt guilty as well; he had been her father after all.
So, she decided to move. Move away from everyone and everything she knew and start afresh, somewhere else. That is how she ended up on Blueberry Island. No one lived here, although people frequently visited from the neighbouring island.
She was going to build a new life here, and be happy – she was sure of it.
Julia Robinson is a Knowledge/Fortune Sim who wants to Max All 7 Skills. Her personality is 5/4/6/4/6. I only realised after creating her how similar her name is to Julia Roberts’. That was unintentional! Although I do love Julia Roberts. :-)
This is Julia’s humble abode. After leaving the city and buying this plot of land, Julia didn’t have much money left, so she’ll have to live in a studio appartment (well, house, actually) for now.
The first thing she does is plant seeds for her garden. There are no grocery stores (or any kind of store, for that matter) on the island, so she’ll have to provide her own food. She’s never had her own garden before, but is hopeful and excited about it. She also has the dream to start her own grocery store one day, but she’ll have to save up for that for a while first.
After setting up her garden Julia gets cracking on her LTW. I don’t get the Max 7 Skills one very often, and it’s a perfect one for the start of a BaCC, so I was very relieved!
Julia was surprised to hear Sims outside her house, but was happy with the company. She became quick friends with Allyn Thomason, who was a member of the garden club, and they bonded over fruits and vegetables.
After chatting with Allyn for a while, other Sims showed up, too, curious to see the Sim living all alone on Blueberry Island.
Julia introduced herself to everyone, and found herself flirting with Talin Depiesse. She was surprised by her own forwardness.
Well, actually, I was surprised. I had no hand in this or what you’ll see a bit later in this update whatsoever. ACR did it all. Julia and Talin here have 2 bolts together, but I don’t really like him, so I didn’t encourage this. ACR did, though.
Julia invited everyone in and had a pleasant afternoon with her guests. Everyone was really nice, and she was glad and a bit relieved that the island got so many visitors and wasn’t as deserted as it seemed.
She went to bed feeling happy and content. Her first day had been pretty great.
The next day she got up early and after a shower and a cereal breakfast she headed out to her garden. She was surprised at the amount of weeds that had already sprouted since yesterday.
She was almost done with tending her plants when Talin showed up on the lot.
Julia went to greet him, and then… ACR kicked in again. They’re all over each other, and I let it happen, but wasn’t really happy about it. Besides the fact that I don’t like his face, there would be hardly any gene diversity with their kids. So, no, this isn’t going to happen.
Obviously, though, they disagree.
After woohooing Julia only had a crush on him, but nothing more. She also doesn’t roll any wants including him, so I saw that as a sign to send him home.
“This was fun, Talin, but I don’t think this will work out.”
He also seemed somewhat glitched (or just extremely annoying): he kept wanting to play Kicky Bag with her. That’s all he initiated, over and over again.
The next morning, over breakfast, Julia pondered the previous day. She felt a bit guilty towards Talin, although he hadn’t seemd too bothered by her decision. Still, though, it wasn’t like her to woohoo with a Sim without wanting it to go somewhere.
Of course, I still wanted to find a spouse for Julia, but it appeared only women wanted to walk by the lot. This was the first adult guy since Talin, and he walked off before Julia had a chance to introduce herself. Plus, I don’t like his face.
That afternoon Julia purchased the lot that later will be “Julia’s Fruits and Veggies” (I know, I’m so original, right?). She had rolled a want for a flower bench, but I want the “order of appearance” of the business to be logical. What’s the first thing you need in a new town? A place to get food.
Before creating Julia, I turned all the Sim Binners into townies, and Faith Goodie here was the first one to walk by the lot. This was the first time I turned Sims into townies, so I was excited to have her stop by! Unfortunately, Julia and Faith didn’t really get along, so she left quite quickly.
Julia loved the beautiful and green surroundings of her new home, but she had to admit taking care of her garden was a bit more work than she had anticipated.
Since she needed money to establish her grocery store and there weren’t that many ways for an unskilled Sim to make money on Blueberry Island Julia decided to take up digging for treasure. It was a desert island, after all…
She dug up many rocks and bones, and a surprising amount of maps to secret places. She wondered who’d buried all those maps here, and why. Unfortunately, though, she hit a water pipe occasionally as well.
She seems quite pleased with that, though.
I was just a second too late (as I often am with these things), but Julia gained her bronze gardening badge that evening!
After being done with tending to the plants for that day, Julia decided to dig a little more before bed. It was late, it was raining, but eventually she found treasure chest! They’re so nice and shiny, I never really want to sell them.
The next day, when she was about to go back inside for some skilling after weeding and watering her plants, she spotted someone walking by and looking at her. She smiled at him and introduced herself.
We all know this dude with the poor dress sense, of course: it’s Benjamin Long! He’s actually the first guy Julia met after Talin. She seemed to like him, and he reciprocated those feelings.
They have two bolts, and although I think Ben is a bit too much of a Sims cliché, I decided to stop being picky and see where it goes. ACR helped them along and soon enough Julia started rolling wants for him.
I love this picture! I always think it’s so cute how Sims ask each other out, with the holding the other’s hand and stuff, but the dog looking so contentedly at them just makes this picture so awesome.
She sure is a go-getter! I like this match a lot better than her and Talin. They’re really cute together :-)
I love that awkward kiss (can’t remember the name).
Julia and Ben really hit it off, so she asked him to move in with her. She knew it was quick, but it felt right, and Ben obviously thought so, too, since he happily said yes. He brought $5940 with him, which isn’t much, but at least it’s something.
Aww, he sneaked out of the house to leave a bunch of roses for Julia.
Ben is a Knowledge Sim, just like Julia, and also has the same LTW as her (Max all 7 skills). That’s a bit boring, but hey, it’s doable at least. His personality is 2/3/9/7/4. In this picture he changed his turn ons and turn offs, but it didn’t change the amount of bolts between the happy couple.
They immediately headed off to Julia’s Fruits and Veggies to open it for the first time (and build it, before that). Julia looked very pleased when she walked around her very own business.
Soon the customers started to arrive and Ben and Julia had work to do. Ben manned the register (but still needed some time to figure out how to work it properly) while Julia took care of sales.
Julia found out she really enjoyed running her own business, and was very excited when her store reached rank 1.
You can imagine she was absolutely over the moon when one of her customers came up to her to tell her she was a reporter and awarded her with the Best of the Best award. On the very first night!
Julia and Ben were very tired, but also very satisfied when they came home, and fell asleep the minute their heads touched their pillows.
While spending the last day of Spring with just the two of them, both realised how much they loved the other, and how happy they were to have met each other.
That afternoon, Ben had a surprise for Julia.
“Jules, I love you more than words can say, and there’s nothing I want more than to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
They got married right then and there, as a true founding couple.
Julia was extremely happy to have found love. She had hoped to start over on Blueberry Island, but she had known it was a big gamble to just leave everything behind. Now she had Ben, and she couldn’t be happier.
As the first summer rain started to come down, Julia and Ben spent their first night together as husband and wife.
