An Heroic Apocalypse – Chapter 5: Job Trouble

Hello all!

Camp NaNoWriMo is over, and I managed to finish my novel! I am really proud of myself, because this is the first novel I’ve ever finished. I actually got butterflies in my stomach when I realised I was really close to the end, which was weird. It feels liberating and really awesome!

Anyways, I’ve now got time for other stuff again, so I present to you chapter 5 of An Heroic Apocalypse! Last time Jane and Joel both grew up to adults. Jane became the heir and managed to get a job in Education, while Joel couldn’t find a suitable job. Jane also married Mitch LeTourneau, who is a Celebrity Chef and thus instantly lifted Culinary! Poor Cris lost his job on top of being senile…

Let’s go!

Joel and Mitch have become quick friends, seeing as they both are practically always home during the day. So is Cris, but he’s usually outside stomping bugs. Joel has a lot of trouble finding a good job, and Mitch is a Celebrity Chef, meaning he only has to work three days a week, and starts late.

Proof he’s actually a Celebrity Chef. ‘Cause you totally wouldn’t have believed me without it or something.

Now Culinary is unlocked we get on with the business of finding a pet to lift Service Pet, and Joel is just the right person to work on that, because he is bored out of his brains.

However, trying to adopt a pet turned out to be just as frustrating as I remembered it to be. This here is Alia. Joel spent a lot of time with her but she walked off the lot before he could adopt her.

Not long after Alia left, Kim came along. He/she (/care) stayed a while and then the most frustrating thing ever happened: just as the option “Adopt” became available, the cat walked off. I was so incredibly angry it wasn’t even funny anymore. Although in retrospect it is :-)

This was also the point I looked at Cris’ age bar thingy and it seemed like he was going to die the next day… Saaad…

“Yeah, they can actually eat real food now, like eggs with two yolks and stuff. Also, why are you naked? It’s making me feel quite uncomfortable to be honest, Mr Snowman.”

:-( It’s time. However much he annoyed me at the end of his life, I was sad to see him go.

“Whut? That can’t be true! I’m only 27! I’m a stud! Don’t take me!”

Sadness ensued :-( Poor Mandy. She’ll be around forever and has to watch all her loved ones die. That’s pretty depressing.

But life goes on, and we need a third generation, ladies and gentlemen!

Looks like we don’t have to wait for that very long!

Also, this was really interesting: right about this point I took a look at Mitch’s relationship panel. Turns out, he’s in love with Mandy! Mandy’s not in love with him, though, and there are no memories whatsoever of them kissing or anything. This could get really nasty if I don’t pay attention to it.

(spoiler: nothing ever happened, and Mitch didn’t show any sign of actually being in love. Weird!)

Success! Joel (still unemployed, which started to worry me a lot) managed to adopt this huge, black, awesome dog called Balin. In real life he would probably scare me, but he’s so cute and cuddly here.

Balin had a lot more success in getting a job than Joel and immediately found one in Service! Time to get him to the top. Plus, Mandy’s now got something to do during the night, when she’s the only one awake.

Pregnantness! (That’s so not a word, is it. Although you do get a lot of hits when you Google it)

Cris made his first appearance as a ghost. He likes scaring his family, unfortunately :-(

He also scared Jane (and Mitch) before she went into labour, meaning she was completely exhausted while giving birth. Darn those ghosts!

Third generation, yay! :-D

Meet Fiona! I was actually hoping for a boy (what with the next spouse on my list being female) but oh well!

With the birth of her first child Jane also became permaplatinum through the Lifetime Aspiration Meter! I usually think that meter makes it too easy to become permaplat, but for an Apocalypse it’s actually really helpful.

Joel found a job! I wanted him to top Journalism, but as that didn’t show up and Intelligence was second best (in my opinion) he went for that one. Apocalypses are all about compromising, you know. (Wow, wise words).

Yeah. Joel doesn’t seem to have the best of luck. He got fired after his first freaking day at work after being unemployed for ages. You can imagine my despair at this point.

This doesn’t have anything to do with anything, I just though it was a really cool picture. Yin and Yang :-)

Then it was time for some bright news. After working her butt off, Jane managed to top Education! Yay! *throws confetti* We kind of needed this, so thank you, Jane!

Teens are now allowed to go to school, we’re a bit closer to being able to go to uni…

…and we’re allowed to use the Bookshelf of Education, which is really really awesome and helpful.

(For those of you who don’t know: with this bookshelf you can learn all of the skills from books. Yes, that includes Body!)

Time flies when you’re busy being frustrated about jobs! It was already time for little Fiona to grow up. This is her as a toddler. She’s got some features that are a bit awkward, but I’m sure she’ll grow into it. Also: freckles!

Fiona immediately gets some Smart Milk. There are now only two bottles left (I think)… I’m really glad I chose Smart Milk as one of the things Mandy brought back, because it’s been quite helpful to Jane and Joel for obtaining skills.

OH YEAH. Joel finally found a job in Journalism! *happydance*

Awesome as he is, he brought back two promotions on his first day and one more on the day after that!

And on that happy note I will end this chapter! I hope to be back soon with chapter 6!

Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it :-)

  1. Congratulations on your novel! That is awesome!

Now, let it sit for a month or two, before you start the editing process, or you will go insane. Also, you’ll be surpised how often you wake up in the middle of the night, with the PERFECT way to fix THAT SCENE. I know it happened that way for me.

As for this post, I’m loving this story. I love Joel. He’s so cute! Poor Mitch, though. I don’t care about him, at all. He brought food to the land, and all I think is “Meh.” I mean, I’m so glad he lifted Culinary. That’s a major boon. But Mitch, himself? Meh.

Have you ever just sent your useless sims out to play in the snow, until they freeze to death?

Thank you! I’ve recently started looking at it again, and I think I’m ready to start editing and polishing and what not!

I’m glad you love it! Joel is one of my favourites, too :-) And same for me, I don’t care about Mitch either and I feel really bad about it… But yeah, “Meh” indeed.

Nope, I’ve never done that (might be an idea, though… but I think I’d feel too guilty). Have you? ;-)
